This is What the Democratic Primary Has Come Down To

I saw this article on CNN last week, and it blew me away. It boils down the Democratic primary in South Carolina into a battle between race and gender, trying to figure out which will be the stronger draw, and especially wondering which direction black women in particular will vote. From the article:
Recent polls show black women are expected to make up more than a third of all Democratic voters in South Carolina’s primary in five days.
For these women, a unique, and most unexpected dilemma, presents itself: Should they vote their race, or should they vote their gender?
Hey, here’s a thought: how about they vote on the quality of the candidates? Perhaps the voters could learn where the candidates stand on the issues, and then choose the person they think would do the best job at running the country.
I’m not necessarily coming down on the voters here – I’d like to think that the good people of South Carolina will exercise at least a modicum of good judgment when making their selection. I am, however, calling out CNN for publishing a fantastically flawed article.
Stay hot, CNN.
Obama Has a Crush on Hillary
I have no article to reference for this one. I just thought it would be funny to see Obama start to develop an attraction to Hillary after being in such close quarters with her for so long. And it’d be even funnier if he tried to woo her with a popular hip-hop song (T-Pain’s “Buy You a Drink“).
When Monkeys Attack
This news story left me shaking my head in amazement. The deputy mayor of New Delhi, a city with a population of 12.3 million, was attacked and killed by a gang of wild monkeys while in his home. Delhi is about the size of Chicago . . . can you even fathom a pack of wild animals surviving inside the city, much less getting into Mayor Daley’s home and killing him?
Wow. Just . . . wow.
I also got a laugh when I pictured what would happen if Bush had been on his way to meet a New Delhi dignitary, and said dignitary had been taken out by the rouge monkeys.
Of Licking Toads and Christmas Ho’s
Two interesting stories in the news today…
1. KC Man Accused Of Toad Licking
From the article:
Clay County sheriff’s deputies said David Theiss, of Kansas City, possessed a Colorado River toad with the intention of using it as a hallucinogenic. Experts said it’s possible to lick the toad’s venom glands to achieve psychedelic effects.
"People used to do it all the time, but it got faded out awhile, but came back as a fad. Not a smart one," animal expert Danny Snyder told KMBC’s Dion Lim. "The toxins in it can kill a lot of stuff."
Clay County . . . I have to admit, it does sound like the kind of place where a guy would lick a toad. But come on – he was officially accused of “toad licking?” Where I come from, that’s just called “being a damn fool.”
2. Santas Warned ‘Ho Ho Ho’ Offensive to Women
From the article:
Santas in Australia’s largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas’s traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday. Sydney’s Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.
One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.
Wow. I thought I’d seen just about the worst it could get when it came to sterilizing all things Christmas. Guess I was wrong. I have nothing else to say on this, except for the comic I drew up to commemorate the occasion.
